Reface or rebuild

Two ways we build stone steps

Every set of steps is different. We start by checking what's underneath, then recommend the right fix for your home.

Front entry steps faced with natural stone and finished with bluestone treadsOption 1
If your platform is solid

Reface & finish with bluestone

When the existing concrete platform and steps are still structurally sound, there's no need to tear them out. We clad them in natural stone and finish them with bluestone treads and a bluestone landing.

  • Keeps what's working. Less demolition and less mess.
  • A completely new look. Natural stone faces with bluestone on top.
  • Built to match your home. Stone colors picked for your siding and trim.
Natural stone steps built from the ground up into a wooded hillsideOption 2
If it needs to be rebuilt

Rebuild from the ground up

When the platform is cracked, settling or crumbling, patching it only hides the problem. We remove it and build your steps from the ground up the old way, with natural stone we get from the quarries.

  • Done right from the start. A new, solid base under every step.
  • Real natural stone. Sourced from quarries, every piece unique.
  • Old-school craftsmanship. Hand-fit and set the way masons used to build.

Not sure which one you need? We'll look at your steps in person and tell you honestly. If refacing will do the job, we won't sell you a rebuild.

Stone steps FAQ

Common questions

Have a question we didn't answer? Call (860) 837-0909 or email sales@avexmasonry.com.

Do I need new steps, or can my old steps be refaced?

If the existing concrete platform and steps are solid, we can reface them with natural stone and finish them with bluestone treads. If the platform is cracked, settling or crumbling, we rebuild the steps from the ground up. We check this in person at your free estimate and give you an honest recommendation.

What are bluestone treads?

Bluestone is a natural stone with a classic blue-gray color that's common on New England homes. A bluestone tread is the flat slab you step on, set on top of each step and on the landing.

How much do stone steps cost?

It depends on how many steps you need, whether we reface or rebuild, the size of the landing and the stone you choose. We meet you at your home, look at the existing steps and send a detailed written proposal at no cost, so there are no last-minute surprises or change orders.

Can you build steps into a hill or sloped yard?

Yes. We build natural stone steps into hillsides and between retaining walls so you can get around a sloped yard safely.

Do you offer financing for stone steps?

Yes. You can choose 12 months same-as-cash or a 10-year loan through Regions EnerBank and apply online. See financing options.

What areas do you build stone steps in?

We build stone steps across Hartford County, CT, plus parts of New Haven County and Tolland County. See the full list of towns below.
